Was the world justified to use nuclear weapon?

On August 15, 1945, finally, Japan’s Emperor Hirohito announced the surrender of his country through the radio. The United States was wrong to drop the two atomic bombs to end World War II because it was an immoral and unnecessary act that had horrible effects on innocent Japanese civilians. Even today, the atomic bomb is still a very serious issue throughout the world. After America invented the atomic bombs, the result of “Manhattan Project,” variety countries started to work on creating the atomic bomb, which can create balance or even superior relationship with other countries. Today, one of the most major conflicts of the world is the relationship between North Korea and America, caused by the ownership of atomic bombs of North Korea.

In the newspaper “HIROSHIMA; Justified Bombings? A Survivor’s Reply” written by the New York Times Archives presents the United States has broken international law and all humanitarian principles through the usage of nuclear weapons. About 55 million people died in the Second World War, in fact, half of the victims died in Hiroshima, caused by the two atomic bombs that the United States dropped. Even more frightening is that, under the explosion and influence of nuclear weapons, some people became disabled individuals and afflicted by chronic diseases. The victims are now living testimonials of the terrible result of the atomic bomb. When Nicholas D. Kristof, Tokyo bureau chief of The New York Times was interviewed , he said “This was a special type of attack, with a weapon that used radiation. One bomb alone destroyed a large city, in one moment.”(The New York Times Archives)

The purpose of this article was telling people about the negative effects of nuclear weapons were and the long-lasting effect on people’s minds and bodies. At that time, Japan was about to surrender, but their leaders worried that they would lose their position as an emperor. The Allies could put pressure on Japan, such as guaranteeing the emperor’s throne, but they didn’t. Finally, the United States ended the war by showing the power of the atomic bomb, placing the bomb on an uninhabited island rather than a city. “His ears are missing, his fingers are deformed and he is weakened by chronic illness, making Akihiro Takahashi a living testimonial to the horrific results of the atomic bomb that exploded over Hiroshima half a century ago.”(The New York Times Archives) There were many residents living in Hiroshima, and the explosion of atomic bombs would release radiation, which is harmful to their those people in the radiation rage. Future more, some people were suffered from chronic diseases after the war end and passed it to the next generation.

This article belongs to the news category. The article not only has the victims’ views on nuclear weapons, but also has opinions from to US citizens. The article combines these two and concludes that the United States was not justified in dropping the atomic bomb on Japan.

The article “Why did the U.S. bomb Hiroshima?” written by Ryan Browne shows that after people seem the damage caused by the explosion of the atomic bomb, many critics have criticized the decision of dropping atomic bombs. If the United States did not use nuclear weapons to force Japan at the time, Japan would soon surrender for the situation. Maier said “the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings ‘did move the Japanese Emperor to intervene with a divided military and advocate for surrender.’ But he added that Japan might have been willing to end the war with conditions like keeping the emperor in place.” (Browne) The purpose of this article is to explain that the United States has indeed accelerated the rate of the Japanese surrender, but the cost was extremely heavy. There were other ways to enforce Japan to surrender without dying so much innocent people, such as to make a promise of keeping the emperor in place after the surrender. Because one of the major reasons that why Japan was unwilling to surrender was the emperor was afraid of being abandoned.

They explained to the audience with unique views and interesting arguments that nuclear weapons were neither the only way for the United States to end the war nor can it be regarded as a reason for the complete destruction of the homes of Japanese and local victims.

In the magazine “Will North Korea Play Nuclear Hide-and-Seek with Trump?” by Robin Wright explains that America President Trump wants to dismantle North Korea’s nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons. Although the North Korean leader Kim Jong Un agreed to abandon their ownership of the nuclear weapon, in their huge arsenal, North Korea must hide some of its weapons. “The U.S. had reportedly identified about a hundred sites in North Korea that it believes harbor major-weapons components of some kind…many of which may hide defense programs, South Korean officials told me when I was in Seoul in May. Three of these tunnels reportedly have underground runways for aircraft takeoffs.” (Wright) It can be seen that North Korea is still ambitious. North Korea has not taken any measures to begin building confidence in the outside world. They are very good at implementing delay tactics. The purpose of this article is to clarify the relationship between North Korea and the United States is on the verge of exploding. The two countries do not trust the honesty of other. For example, North Korea also has many potential defense facilities. And those nuclear weapons and everything else has become a potential threat to the world.

In the CUNY library “Our dangerous muddle in North Korea,” the author Daniel Kennelly shows that The nuclear weapons possessed by North Korea pose a great threat to the United States. And they are not willing to give up develop and produce it. “In November 2002, we learned that the North had secretly continued work on its nuclear weapons program, so the fuel shipments were halted. The lesson learned from this debacle was that the North Koreans refuse to trade away their nuclear program at any price.”(Kennelly). The purpose of this article is to show that South Korea and the United States have made good exchanges, making North Korea feel scared and scared. They are not willing to give up nuclear weapons and want to threaten the world by claiming the ownership of nuclear weapons. These actions have caused North Korea’s long-term threat and instability.
